Friday Prayer: Present in Pain
Lord, someone I care about is hurting, and I don't know how to help. My instinct is to fix their problem, give them answers, or tell them why it's not as bad as they think. But maybe what they need isn't solutions - maybe they just need someone to sit with them in the darkness.
Teach me the ministry of presence. Help me be comfortable with pain I can't resolve, with questions I can't answer, with suffering I can't explain away. Let me weep with those who weep instead of rushing to make them stop weeping. Give me words when words would help and silence when silence is better.
Thank you for being present in my pain - for not always fixing my problems immediately but for never leaving me alone in them. Help me offer that same gift to others. When I want to preach, help me listen. When I want to explain, help me acknowledge. When I want to fix, help me simply be with. Teach me to love like you love - present, patient, and real.
