Lord, I confess I'm often like Jerusalem - disturbed when you show up in unexpected ways, comfortable with my assumptions about how you should work. I scan for the dramatic and miss the quiet. I look for power and overlook weakness. I want glory on my terms, not yours.
Adjust my vision to see your light in hidden places. Help me recognize your work in the ordinary, your presence in the unexpected, your glory wrapped in humility. Don't let my expectations of how you should move cause me to miss how you actually are moving. Make me more like the magi - willing to follow wherever the star leads, even when it ends somewhere surprising.
This year, I want to see you clearly - not the version of you I've constructed, but who you actually are. Reveal yourself to me in ways I'm not expecting, through people I'm tempted to dismiss, in places I wouldn't think to look. Give me eyes to see your epiphanies hiding in plain sight.
