Monday Prayer: Saints Peter and Paul
Father, thank you for Peter and Paul - vastly different men united by common confession that Jesus is Lord. Peter the fisherman and Paul the Pharisee, Peter the insider and Paul the convert, Peter who denied and Paul who persecuted. Yet you used both powerfully because both encountered the risen Christ and surrendered everything to follow him.
Their lives teach that past failures don't disqualify future service. Peter denied Jesus three times. Paul murdered Christians. Yet you restored Peter and called Paul. You specialize in redemption - using broken people with shameful pasts for significant purposes. My worst sins don't disqualify me if I repent and surrender.
Both died for their faith - martyred in Rome for confessing Christ when denial would have saved their lives. They considered Jesus worth dying for. Help me live like Jesus is worth everything. The gospel they preached cost them their lives. Give me even fraction of their passion, their boldness, their willingness to give everything for the One who gave everything for me.
