Saturday Prayer: Costly Sacrifice
Father, ANZAC soldiers charged into deadly fire at Gallipoli, sacrificing their lives for freedoms I enjoy. Young men died far from home, facing terrible hardship, demonstrating courage and loyalty. Their sacrifice matters enormously. Thank you for those willing to give their lives for others' freedom.
But thank you even more for Jesus, who sacrificed himself to accomplish what no human death could - actual defeat of sin, death, and Satan. His death purchased spiritual freedom no military victory could provide. His sacrifice paid debt I couldn't pay. His blood bought my salvation.
Forgive me for taking these sacrifices for granted. Forgive me for enjoying freedoms others died to provide while living carelessly, selfishly, without gratitude. Teach me to steward well what their blood purchased - both earthly freedoms and eternal salvation. They gave everything. Help me honor that by how I live.
