Saturday Prayer: Grateful in Difficulty
Father, I'm facing circumstances that make gratitude hard. Things are difficult in ways I didn't expect, painful in ways I can't fix, prolonged beyond what I thought I could endure. The temptation is focusing exclusively on what's wrong while ignoring what remains good. But Lincoln teaches me better - even in civil war, there were reasons for thanksgiving.
Help me see your ongoing mercies. Show me what remains good despite present difficulty. Food that nourishes me. People who care about me. Beauty that still exists. Small kindnesses. Daily provisions. These aren't trivial - they're testimonies to your faithfulness. You haven't abandoned me. You're sustaining me through suffering even while using it to build character I need.
I don't thank you for the suffering itself - evil isn't good just because you can redeem it. But I thank you in the suffering for your presence with me, your promises to me, your faithfulness despite my circumstances. You're working purposes I can't yet see. Character is forming. Perseverance is building. Hope will emerge. I trust that. Thank you for your persistent care even in difficulty.
