Saturday Prayer: Justice and Courage

Saturday Prayer: Justice and Courage

Lord, you are perfectly just, defending the weak and opposing oppressors. You hear the cries of the afflicted and promise to set things right. Your heart breaks for injustice, and you command your people to care about what you care about.

Forgive my comfortable silence when I should speak, my convenient blindness to injustice that doesn't affect me directly, my preference for order over righteousness. I've prioritized my comfort over others' dignity, my safety over their suffering. I've been the priest and Levite who passed by on the other side instead of the Samaritan who stopped to help.

Give me courage to speak when it's costly, to act when it's uncomfortable, to stand with the oppressed when it's unpopular. Show me where injustice exists that I've been ignoring. Help me use my voice, my privilege, my resources for those who lack them. You didn't stay silent when I needed rescuing. Don't let me stay silent when others need help.
