Sunday Prayer: Grace for Others

Sunday Prayer: Grace for Others

Lord, I love grace for me but struggle to extend it to others. I celebrate your patience with my sin but demand judgment for theirs. I want mercy when I fail but accountability when they do. I'm the elder brother, offended that you welcome sinners who don't deserve it - forgetting I didn't deserve it either.

Forgive my selective grace, my spiritual elitism, my moral superiority. I'm saved by grace alone, not by works, not by performance, not by being better than others. I have nothing to boast about. My standing with you is the same as the worst sinner I can imagine - totally dependent on grace I didn't earn.

Help me extend to others the same grace you extended to me. Let me welcome the undeserving the way you welcomed me. Let me celebrate restoration even when people haven't earned it - because I didn't earn mine either. The scandal of grace is that it's freely given to the undeserving. I received it. Help me give it.
