Sunday Prayer: Roots of Pentecost
Father, you chose Shavuot - the feast of weeks, the wheat harvest, the celebration of Torah - as the moment to pour out your Spirit. This wasn't random timing. You were fulfilling patterns, completing promises, revealing that what the Law began the Spirit would finish. At Sinai, you wrote on stone tablets. At Pentecost, you wrote on human hearts.
Thank you that Jesus didn't abolish your revelation but perfected it. Thank you that the new covenant doesn't replace the old but renews it. Thank you that the gospel doesn't ignore Israel but includes the nations. Your plan has always been consistent - to gather a people for yourself, to dwell among them, to make them holy.
As I prepare for Pentecost in seven days, help me understand the Jewish roots of my faith. Christianity didn't start from nothing - it grew from promises you made to Abraham, fulfilled through Jesus, and empowered by the Spirit. Thank you for the harvest - grain and souls, provision and salvation, firstfruits pointing to full harvest. You provide everything. You deserve everything. Come, Holy Spirit.
