Thursday Prayer: Child, Not Orphan

Thursday Prayer: Child, Not Orphan

Abba Father, I confess I've been living with an orphan heart despite being adopted as your child. I've been working for approval you freely give, striving to earn love you lavishly pour out, trying to secure a position you've already established. I've served like a slave instead of a son.

Forgive my orphan thinking. I don't need to earn my place in your family - you adopted me. I don't need to prove my worth to you - you paid the ultimate price to make me yours. I don't need to work my way into your good graces - I'm already your beloved child.

Teach me to live from my adopted identity. When I sin, let me run to you instead of from you. When I succeed, let me enjoy your delight rather than seek your approval. When I fail, let me trust your continued acceptance rather than fear rejection. I'm your child. Help me believe it, receive it, and live from it.
