Tuesday Prayer: Breaking Free
Jesus, you came to set captives free, but I've been comfortable in my chains. I've made peace with bondage because it's familiar, accepted slavery because I don't know how to live free. What I call normal, you call captivity. What I defend as fine, you see as oppression.
Show me my chains - the ones I don't recognize because they've always been there. The approval I chase, the control I demand, the comfort I worship, the fear that dictates decisions. I've been enslaved to so much while calling it normal life. Break these chains, even when breaking them is painful.
Give me courage to walk in the freedom you've already purchased. It's scary leaving familiar bondage for unknown freedom, easier staying enslaved than learning to live free. But you didn't die to leave me in chains. You freed me. Help me live like it's true. I want real freedom, even when it costs me comfortable captivity.
