Jesus, the magi brought you their best - gold, frankincense, myrrh - before they knew what you'd do for them, before you performed a single miracle, before you proved yourself by their standards. They worshiped because of who you were, not because of what you'd done for them. My worship is far more transactional.

I want to bring you treasures this year, but I'm holding them close, evaluating their value, calculating what they're worth. I want to know you'll give me a return on my investment before I commit. Forgive my conditional worship, my convenient devotion, my unwillingness to journey far or give much.

Show me what treasures I'm hoarding that should be opened and offered to you. What am I protecting that should be poured out? What journey are you calling me on that will cost me something? I don't want to be like the Jerusalem priests - six miles away but unwilling to walk. I want to be like the magi - willing to travel far, risk much, and give generously. Help me worship with my life, not just my lips.
