Wednesday Prayer: Hope Beyond Optimism

Wednesday Prayer: Hope Beyond Optimism

Lord, I've been confusing hope with optimism, treating them as the same when they're fundamentally different. I've been hoping circumstances will improve when I should be hoping in you regardless of whether they do. My hope has been in favorable outcomes when it should be in your faithful character.

Forgive my shallow optimism masquerading as deep hope. Teach me the difference between expecting things to get better and trusting you're good when they don't. Help me hope like Job - even if you slay me, yet will I hope in you. Help me hope like Paul - convinced nothing can separate me from your love, even when everything else falls apart.

Anchor my hope in eternal realities, not temporal circumstances. When this year doesn't unfold as I planned, let my hope hold firm because it's built on your unchanging character, not my changing situation. You are faithful even when life isn't. You are good even when circumstances aren't. That's where my hope lives.
