Friday Prayer: Freedom From Rules
Jesus, I confess I've been adding rules to your gospel, creating standards you never established, measuring spirituality by checklists you never gave me. I've made Christianity about external conformity when you're after heart transformation. I've judged others by my extrabiblical standards and felt superior when they didn't measure up.
Forgive my legalism. You set me free from using obedience as ladder to reach you, but I keep climbing anyway. You removed the burden of earning favor, but I keep trying to prove myself worthy. You offer rest for the weary, but I'm exhausting myself with self-imposed rules.
Teach me the difference between obedience that flows from love and legalism that earns approval. Help me embrace the freedom you purchased at such high cost. Let me rest in your finished work instead of trying to add to it. Your yoke is easy, your burden is light. Help me stop carrying weights you never intended me to lift.
