Monday Prayer: Justice and Mercy
Lord, you have shown me what is good - to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you. But I confess I've separated gospel from justice, as if I can love you while ignoring the oppression of people made in your image. I've been comfortable when I should have been convicted, silent when I should have spoken.
Forgive my complicity in systems that advantage me while disadvantaging others. Forgive my silence in the face of injustice. Forgive my comfort with inequality that you find abhorrent. Open my eyes to see what you see, feel what breaks your heart, act where you're calling me to work for flourishing of all your image-bearers.
Don't let me separate personal piety from public justice. Don't let me claim to love you while ignoring the oppressed. Don't let me be comfortable with systems that contradict your kingdom. Give me courage to speak, wisdom to act, and commitment to pursue justice as faithfully as I pursue my own salvation. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
