Saturday Prayer: Eyes to See You

Saturday Prayer: Eyes to See You

Jesus, you walked with two disciples for seven miles and they didn't recognize you. You explained Scripture, answered questions, participated in ordinary conversation - and they had no idea who you were. Only when you broke bread did their eyes open. Only in familiar practice did recognition come.

I confess I'm often like them - walking with you without recognizing your presence, talking about you without realizing you're listening, explaining what's happening while missing what's actually happening. My expectations of how you should show up blind me to how you actually do. Open my eyes.

Help me recognize you in ordinary moments - in broken bread, explained Scripture, offered hospitality, walked journeys. You're present when I don't feel you, active when I don't notice you, speaking when I don't hear you. Give me eyes to see what's actually happening instead of what I think should be happening. You're here. Help me recognize you.
