Saturday Prayer: Fill Me With Your Joy
Father, I'm not happy. Circumstances are hard, and I'm struggling. But I know joy and happiness aren't the same. Joy is rooted in you, not my situation. Help me access joy that doesn't depend on things going well - joy based on your character, which doesn't change with circumstances.
Fill me with the Spirit's joy. I can't manufacture it through positive thinking or generate it through effort. It's supernatural gift from you - fruit that grows from your life in me. When I'm overwhelmed by what's wrong, help me focus on what's right about you. You're faithful, good, sovereign, loving. Those truths don't change regardless of what's happening.
The joy of the Lord is my strength - not for avoiding difficulties but for enduring them without being destroyed. Let your joy strengthen me when I'm weak, sustain me when I'm depleted, carry me when I can't carry myself. I might not feel happy, but your joy is available. Fill me with it.
