Saturday Prayer: Remembering D-Day

Saturday Prayer: Remembering D-Day

Father, eighty-two years ago today, thousands of young men stormed Normandy beaches, many dying before reaching shore. They fought to liberate nations enslaved by tyranny, giving their lives believing freedom was worth the cost. Thank you for their courage, their sacrifice, their willingness to die so others could live free.

War is terrible even when necessary, tragic even when just. Every soldier who died was someone you created, someone you loved, someone whose death grieved you. Help me honor their sacrifice without glorifying war, respect their courage without assuming violence is always the answer, remember the cost without forgetting that you desire peace.

Give me wisdom to navigate the tension between Jesus's command to love enemies and the reality that evil sometimes must be confronted with force. Help me work for peace while recognizing I live in a fallen world where war sometimes happens. Most of all, help me remember the ultimate sacrifice - Jesus dying not just for friends but for enemies, purchasing freedom that lasts forever. Thank you for soldiers who gave their lives. Thank you for the Savior who gave his. Both sacrifices matter. Only one saves eternally.
