Sunday Prayer: Search My Heart
God, search me and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. I'm afraid of what you'll find - the pride, fear, bitterness, greed I've been hiding from myself. But I need you to search me because I can't see myself clearly. My heart is deceitful. I rationalize sin, minimize failure, hide offense behind justification.
Reveal what I can't or won't see. Show me pride masquerading as confidence, fear masquerading as prudence, bitterness masquerading as justice, greed masquerading as provision. Expose patterns that have become invisible because I've lived with them so long. Give me external perspective through Scripture, community, and your Spirit's conviction.
When you reveal something, help me not defend it. No rationalization, no minimizing, no deflecting. If you show pride, help me confess it without explaining why I had good reason. If you expose bitterness, help me acknowledge it without justifying why I'm entitled. Search me, reveal offense, then lead me in everlasting ways. I want to see what you see so I can change what needs changing.
