Saturday Prayer: True Freedom
Father, today my country celebrates independence - 250 years since declaring freedom from British rule. I'm grateful for liberties I often take for granted - the ability to worship you openly, speak freely, pursue opportunities. Thank you for those who secured these freedoms at great cost. Help me honor their sacrifice without worshiping the nation.
But remind me that ultimate freedom comes only from you. Political liberty matters, but spiritual freedom matters more. America can grant constitutional rights, but only you can break sin's power. My country deserves gratitude and civic engagement, but you alone deserve worship.
Help me love my nation while recognizing its sins - celebrating independence while remembering it was built partly on slavery and genocide. Let me honor those who serve while questioning actions that contradict your justice. Give me wisdom to be faithful citizen of both earthly nation and heavenly kingdom, recognizing that my primary allegiance belongs to you. No flag is your banner. No nation is your kingdom. My truest citizenship is in heaven.
