Sunday Prayer: Kingdom Citizens
Father, yesterday's celebrations have faded and ordinary life resumes. I enjoyed the festivities, appreciated the freedoms I have, honored those who served. But now I need to recalibrate my priorities and remember where my ultimate allegiance belongs.
Forgive me when I've confused earthly citizenship with heavenly citizenship, when I've treated my nation as if it's your kingdom, when I've assumed American interests equal your will. My country deserves gratitude and civic engagement, but you alone deserve worship. Help me keep that distinction clear.
Let me participate in earthly citizenship as expression of heavenly citizenship, not replacement for it. Help me vote thoughtfully, engage in community life, and work for justice - but always flowing from kingdom values rather than political tribalism. Every earthly nation will eventually fail, but your kingdom endures eternally. Let me invest my ultimate hope there, not in political systems that will fade. I'm a citizen of your kingdom first. Help me live like it.
