Saturday Prayer: You Alone Are Sufficient
Father, I confess I've been treating you as one item on my list of necessary things rather than as sufficient in yourself. I've wanted you plus health, you plus prosperity, you plus favorable circumstances. When you didn't provide the "plus" items, my faith wavered because my sufficiency was actually in those things rather than in you.
Forgive me for measuring my life by boxes checked rather than by knowing you. Forgive me for seeking you because I want what you give rather than because I want you. Forgive me for building my foundation on multiple supports rather than one solid Rock. Help me find you sufficient when everything else fails. Teach me to say with Asaph: "Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you." I'm not there yet. But I want to be. Let me treasure you above everything else, find my satisfaction in you alone, build my life on the one foundation that cannot be shaken. When everything else fails - and it will - you remain. Be the strength of my heart and my portion forever. That's enough. You're enough.
