Sunday Prayer: Starting Again

Sunday Prayer: Starting Again

Father, I'm thirteen days into September and I've already failed commitments I made, abandoned disciplines I intended to keep, quit things I said I'd continue. The temptation is to stay quit - to let early failure justify complete abandonment, to wait for better timing, to start fresh next month when conditions are more favorable.

But that's not how faithfulness works. Faithfulness is persistence despite imperfection, getting up one more time than I fall down, returning after wandering rather than staying lost. Your mercies are new every morning. I don't have to wait for a new month. I get fresh start today.

I confess what I've failed to do. I repent of what I've done wrong. Now I'm starting again - picking up what I dropped, continuing what I abandoned, resuming what I quit. Will I fail again? Probably. Does that mean I shouldn't try? No. Help me fall seven times and get up eight. That's faithfulness - persistent continuation, not flawless execution.
