Thursday Prayer: The Hunger for Purpose

Father, you have plans for me - plans to prosper and not to harm, to give me hope and a future. You've prepared good works in advance for me to walk in. My life has meaning because you give it meaning, purpose because you have purposes.

I've been restless with questions about why I'm here, what I'm supposed to be doing, whether my life matters. I look at others who seem so sure of their calling while I feel like I'm wandering in circles. I've been searching for my purpose in what I do instead of finding it in whose I am. Thank you for the ways you've used me even when I didn't know it, for purpose that's often found in ordinary obedience, for the reminder that my first calling is simply to love you and be loved by you.

Give me contentment in the season I'm in while keeping my heart open to where you're leading. Help me find purpose in the small, faithful acts of today rather than waiting for some grand revelation. When I feel directionless, remind me that following you is direction enough. Tonight, I trust that you're weaving my story into something beautiful, even when I can't see the pattern. You have good work for me to do.
