Thursday Prayer: Wanting You
God, I confess I often want your gifts more than I want you. I come to you primarily as problem-solver, not as prize worth having for yourself. I value what you can do for me more than who you are to me. I'm using you more than loving you, and that's painful to admit.
Forgive my utilitarian approach to relationship with you. Transform my desires so I want you, not just what you provide. Change my heart so knowing you becomes the desire, not just the means to other desires. Help me delight in you for yourself, not just for what you do.
Teach me to pray like David - panting, thirsting, desperately longing for you, not just your help. Let me treasure you like Paul - counting everything else as loss for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. When my prayers focus only on what I want from you, redirect them toward simply wanting you. You are the gift. You are the prize. You are enough.
