Wednesday Prayer: Rest as Gift

Wednesday Prayer: Rest as Gift

Father, I've believed the lie that rest must be earned through work. I feel guilty resting when tasks remain undone. I justify breaks by listing accomplishments. I apologize for time off by explaining how hard I've worked. I've tied my worth to my productivity, making rest conditional on output.

Forgive this backwards thinking. You didn't create Adam to work six days then earn rest on the seventh. You gave him rest first, then work flowed from that rest. Sabbath isn't reward for productivity - it's command based on your design. Rest isn't wage I earn but gift you give to those you love.

Help me receive rest without guilt, take breaks without justification, and sleep without apologizing. My worth doesn't depend on productivity. I'm valuable because you created me and love me. Teach me to rest in the middle of unfinished work, trusting you're sovereign over what doesn't get done while I sleep. Rest is gift. Help me receive it.
