Wednesday Prayer: Sovereign in Suffering

Wednesday Prayer: Sovereign in Suffering

Father, I affirm your sovereignty in theory but struggle with it in practice. You control everything, yet terrible things happen. You're all-powerful, yet you don't prevent suffering. You love me, yet you allow pain. I don't understand. Like Job, I want answers. Like Joseph, I want to know why this is happening.

But you didn't give Job explanations - you gave him encounter with you. You didn't tell Joseph the full plan - you worked through his suffering to save lives. You didn't spare Jesus from crucifixion - you raised him from death. You're sovereign, but sovereignty doesn't mean I'll understand your ways.

Help me trust you when I can't trace you. Help me believe you're working for good even when circumstances are terrible. Help me anchor myself to your character when I can't comprehend your purposes. You're God and I'm not. That's enough. Work all things together for good, even when I can't see the good you're accomplishing. I trust your sovereignty even when I don't understand your ways.
