Friday Prayer: The Long View
Father, I want explanations you're not giving. I want purposes to be clear now, timelines to make sense today, stories to have obvious meanings while I'm still in the middle. But you work on scales that dwarf human lifespans, weaving purposes I can't comprehend into plans I won't fully see.
Help me trust you when I can't understand. Joseph spent thirteen years in slavery and prison without knowing why - help me endure seasons when your purposes aren't clear. Ruth lived faithfully without realizing how her ordinary choices fit into messianic plans - help me serve faithfully even when significance isn't apparent.
I don't need to understand to trust. I don't need to see the whole tapestry to keep weaving my thread faithfully. You're working all things together for good - not explaining all things, not making all things feel good, but working all things for purposes I can't yet see. Give me faith to believe this when circumstances suggest otherwise. You're writing a story bigger than my life. Help me trust the Author even when I can't read the whole script.
