Monday Prayer: Broken But Usable

Monday Prayer: Broken But Usable

Father, Columbus's story confronts me with uncomfortable truths. He accomplished significant things while committing terrible evil. He's celebrated and condemned, remembered and reviled. The same tension exists in biblical figures - David, Peter, Paul - flawed people you still used for your purposes.

This gives me hope and humbles me. Hope because if you can use deeply flawed people for significant purposes, you can use me despite my failures. My past sins don't disqualify future service. My current struggles don't prevent you from working through me. But this also humbles me because I have no grounds for pride. My accomplishments are tainted by sin just like everyone else's.

Help me pursue repentance, not just hope for grace despite sin. Use me despite my brokenness, but don't let me treat brokenness as acceptable. I'm available to you - flawed, compromised, imperfect, but willing. Work through me despite my failures. That's grace. Thank you for using broken people. That's the only kind of people there are.
