Tuesday Prayer: Choosing Stillness

Father, I'm like Martha - worried and upset about many things, busy with tasks, distracted by obligations, serving you while not actually being with you. My busyness has displaced presence. I'm so focused on doing things for you that I'm missing being with you. Stop me.

Jesus prioritized stillness despite having only three years and urgent mission to accomplish. I convince myself I can't afford stillness, but I can't afford to keep running without it. Without stillness, I lose perspective. Everything feels urgent. I can't distinguish between what matters and what doesn't because I never stop long enough to evaluate.

Help me choose what's better today. Give me courage to be still - not as reward after tasks are completed, but as necessary practice regardless of what remains undone. The tasks will wait. Most aren't as urgent as they feel. I need to be with you more than I need to be busy for you. Teach me to be still and know that you're God. I'm not. That's enough.

Your evening prayer will be waiting for you right here when you check back in.
