Monday Prayer: Remembering the Dead

Father, today I remember those I've lost. I name them before you: [space for personal names]. Their deaths mattered. They mattered. I miss them. The world feels emptier without them. I grieve their absence.
You grieve too. Jesus wept at Lazarus's tomb even though he knew he was about to raise him. You're not scandalized by my grief. You don't demand I move past it or pretend resurrection hope erases present pain. You let me sit in loss honestly.
But you also promise death isn't final. The grave couldn't hold Jesus. It won't hold those I've lost. The separation is temporary, not permanent. The absence is real but not ultimate. One day I'll see them again. That hope doesn't erase my grief, but it gives context.
Help me grieve well—deeply because loss is real, but with hope because death is defeated. Let me honor those who've died by remembering their lives, carrying forward their faithfulness, and living in ways that would make them proud. They're part of your family. So am I. Death can't destroy that connection.
Your evening prayer will be waiting for you right here when you check back in.
