Sunday Prayer: Part of the Cloud

Father, I'm surrounded by witnesses—believers who ran this race before me and finished faithfully. Some I know by name: the apostles, the martyrs, the Reformers. Most are unknown: the mothers who taught their children, the slaves who worshiped in secret, the poor who shared their little. They all kept the faith through harder circumstances than mine.

Their example encourages me. If they could remain faithful through persecution, I can remain faithful through my easier challenges. If they could trust you when everything collapsed, I can trust you when things are merely difficult. They didn't have it easy—they had it hard. Yet they persevered.

I'm running the same race they ran. The specifics differ but the essence is identical: trusting you daily, obeying despite cost, loving when it's difficult, hoping when circumstances suggest hopelessness. They did it. By your grace, I can too.

Help me remember I'm not alone in this race. The cloud surrounds me. Their witness encourages me. Their faithfulness inspires me. One day I'll join them—another unnamed believer whose ordinary faithfulness contributed to the faith continuing. Until then, help me run well.

Your evening prayer will be waiting for you right here when you check back in.
