Tuesday Prayer: Election Day

Father, today my country votes. Results will please some and disappoint others. Already I'm tempted to make political outcomes more significant than they are, to treat my preferred candidates as saviors or opposing candidates as enemies rather than neighbors.
Remind me that your kingdom doesn't depend on election results. The gospel spreads regardless of who controls government. The church survives hostile regimes. Your purposes advance despite political opposition. Elections matter, but they're not ultimate.
Help me engage politically with both conviction and humility. I hold positions I believe reflect biblical values—but I hold them as finite human, not omniscient God. Others who love you reach different conclusions in good faith. Give me grace to disagree without demonizing.
My citizenship is in heaven. My ultimate allegiance is to you. This election matters—but it doesn't matter most. Tomorrow I'll wake up and keep following Jesus regardless of results. Teach me to care deeply about justice while trusting sovereignty, to work for good outcomes while resting in your control.
Your evening prayer will be waiting for you right here when you check back in.
