Saturday Prayer: When You Feel Absent

Saturday Prayer: When You Feel Absent

Father, you feel absent. I'm praying and hearing nothing, reading Scripture and feeling nothing, worshiping and experiencing nothing. I'm doing all the right things but you feel distant, maybe even gone. This is hard. I want to feel your presence, hear your voice, experience your closeness.

But you promised never to leave or forsake me. That's true whether I feel it or not. Your presence isn't dependent on my perception. You're with me in darkness as surely as in light. Help me trust your promises when feelings contradict them. Help me believe your presence when I can't sense it.

Maybe you're withdrawing felt presence to deepen my faith beyond emotional dependence. Maybe you're testing whether I love you for yourself or for what you give me. Maybe you're purifying trust that relies on feelings rather than your character. Whatever you're doing, keep working. I choose faith over feelings. I trust your promises over my perceptions. You're present even when you feel absent. Help me believe that.
