Sunday Prayer: Four Days Until Ascension
Jesus, four days from now you'll ascend to the Father, completing what resurrection began. The disciples had you back after crucifixion's devastation, but now you were leaving again - this time ascending to heaven. They had to trust that your departure was necessary for the Spirit's coming, that physical absence enabled spiritual presence, that what felt like loss was actually gain.
I understand their confusion. I want you physically present, visibly active, audibly directing. I want what feels like direct access, not faith in promised Spirit. But you told them to wait for something better than localized physical presence - universal spiritual presence that would come after you ascended.
Help me trust your timing like they had to trust it. The ascension was necessary. The waiting had purpose. The Spirit would come on your schedule, not theirs. I'm waiting for promises you haven't fulfilled yet, trusting that delay has purpose, believing that your timing is better than my impatience. Four days until ascension. Then ten more until Pentecost. I'll wait. Come, Holy Spirit.
