Sunday Prayer: Waiting for Power

Sunday Prayer: Waiting for Power

Jesus, you promised that I'd receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on me. Power not for personal success but for witness - speaking truthfully about what you've done, living faithfully regardless of cost, loving sacrificially even when rejected. This intimidates me. I don't feel powerful. I feel weak, inadequate, unqualified.

But you didn't say I'd receive power when I felt ready. You said power comes when the Spirit comes. I'm not the power source; he is. I'm not the persuader; he is. I'm not the converter; he is. My job is to witness - testify to what I've seen and know about you. The Spirit does the rest.

Help me start in my Jerusalem - my neighborhood, workplace, family, the ordinary places I go every day. Give me courage to witness where I am before I worry about witnessing in exotic places. Send your Spirit to empower my inadequate words, use my imperfect testimony, and accomplish your purposes through my weak witness. You promised power would come. I'm waiting. I'm ready. Come, Holy Spirit.
