Thursday Prayer: Dual Citizenship
Father, the Constitution established government deriving power from "We the People." It created framework for democratic participation, protected religious freedom, and limited government power. It also protected slavery and took seventy-eight years and a civil war to begin addressing that contradiction. I'm grateful for freedom while acknowledging this nation's deep flaws.
Help me navigate dual citizenship - honoring earthly government while remembering my primary allegiance is to your kingdom. Let me participate in democracy without expecting it to establish your kingdom. Let me advocate for justice without confusing political victory with spiritual triumph. Let me engage politically while remembering you're sovereign over all human authority.
The king's heart is in your hand. Presidents, senators, judges - all serve your purposes whether they know it or not. I don't need to fear human power because you're sovereign over all. Help me respect earthly authority while worshiping only you. My citizenship is in heaven. That doesn't diminish my earthly responsibilities, but it determines my ultimate allegiance.
