Tuesday Prayer: Authority and Accountability

Tuesday Prayer: Authority and Accountability

Father, you established all earthly authority - kings and presidents, parents and employers, leaders and governors. They rule under your permission, accountable ultimately to you. Help me respect the authority you've placed over me while recognizing that all human power is temporary and derivative. No earthly throne compares to yours.

Show me the authority you've given me - over children or employees, students or team members, anyone I influence or lead. Help me use it for service rather than self-interest, for others' good rather than my own glory. Authority is responsibility, not privilege. Keep me accountable for how I wield whatever power you've entrusted to me.

Thank you that Jesus subverted earthly power structures by serving rather than dominating, washing feet rather than demanding allegiance, dying rather than destroying enemies. He's the only King worth absolute loyalty. Help me live as citizen of his kingdom first, subordinating all earthly allegiances to him. Every authority will give account to him. So will I. Keep me faithful.
